One Lakh, or both.<\/li>\n<li>It outlines the\u00a0provisions for the rehabilitation of sanitation workers and\u00a0their families.<\/li>\n<li>After a survey\u00a0of manual scavengers, the local administration must give them a photo identity card\u00a0with\u00a0details of their family members and\u00a0monetary compensation. Their\u00a0children must get a government scholarship, and they must\u00a0get a residential plot and money to construct on it.<\/li>\n<li>It is also\u00a0illegal for a sewer\u00a0or septic tank\u00a0to be cleaned by a person without the\u00a0employer providing protective gear\u00a0and cleaning devices and\u00a0observing safety precautions.<\/li>\n<li>Under the Act,\u00a0every local authority\u00a0must make sure that there are\u00a0no insanitary latrines in its jurisdiction\u00a0and\u00a0no manual scavengers are employed. A local authority is a municipality or a panchayat, which is responsible for sanitation in its jurisdiction.<\/li>\n<li>Local authorities\u00a0must construct community sanitary latrines\u00a0(which don\u2019t require the manual removal of human excreta) and make\u00a0arrangements for their hygienic upkeep\u00a0at all times. They must also ensure the use of technological appliances for cleaning sewers, septic tanks and other such spaces in their jurisdictions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How do the states ensure the Act is implemented?\n<ul>\n<li>Every\u00a0state\u00a0must\u00a0have a monitoring committee consisting of the\u00a0chief minister, the\u00a0minister\u00a0representing Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and the director-general of police, among other officials.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Every state government or union territory administration must send periodic reports to the central government about its progress on implementing this Act.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0government has to ensure that\u00a0local authorities and district magistrates\u00a0implement the law.
