{"id":16123,"date":"2023-10-21T06:44:05","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T01:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16123"},"modified":"2025-04-03T22:31:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:01:25","slug":"neurocysticercosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/neurocysticercosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Neurocysticercosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Neurocysticercosis<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0parasitic infection of the central nervous system and is\u00a0caused by the pork tapeworm Taenia solium.<\/li>\n<li>Humans become infected after consuming\u00a0undercooked food, particularly pork, or water contaminated with tapeworm eggs, or through poor hygiene practices.<\/li>\n<li>Taeniasis is the intestinal infection of the adult tapeworm.<\/li>\n<li>When left untreated, a more serious condition known as cysticercosis develops as T. solium larvae invade body tissues.<\/li>\n<li>When larvae build up in the central nervous system, muscles, skin and eyes, it leads to neurocysticercosis.<\/li>\n<li>It is the most severe form of the disease and a common cause of seizures worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms\n<ul>\n<li>Most often, neurocysticercosis in other areas or organs of the body may remain asymptomatic.<\/li>\n<li>But when the condition affects the brain, it causes severe symptoms like\u00a0seizures or epilepsy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Treatment:\u00a0It is mainly treated symptomatically and by management of seizures by anticonvulsants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Epilepsy?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent and unprovoked seizures.
