{"id":16132,"date":"2023-10-21T06:31:05","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T01:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16132"},"modified":"2025-04-03T22:34:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:04:40","slug":"yard-12706","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/yard-12706\/","title":{"rendered":"Yard 12706 (IMPHAL)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Yard 12706 (IMPHAL)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The ship is\u00a0constructed using Indigenous Steel DMR 249A and is amongst the largest Destroyers constructed in India, with an overall length of 164 meters and a\u00a0displacement of over 7500 Tons.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is propelled by a powerful\u00a0Combined Gas and Gas Propulsion Plant (COGAG), consisting of four reversible Gas Turbines, which enables her to achieve a\u00a0speed of over 30 knots (approx 55 Kmph).<\/li>\n<li>The ship is a potent platform capable of undertaking a variety of tasks and missions, spanning the full spectrum of maritime warfare.\n<ul>\n<li>It is armed with\u00a0supersonic Surface-to-Surface \u2018Brahmos\u2019 missiles and \u2018Barak-8\u2019 Medium Range Surface to Air Missiles.<\/li>\n<li>Towards undersea warfare capability the Destroyer is fitted with indigenously developed anti-submarine weapons and sensors, prominently the Hull mounted Sonar Humsa NG, Heavy weight Torpedo Tube Launchers and ASW Rocket Launchers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is more versatile than the previous classes of Destroyer and Frigates in Naval inventory.<\/li>\n<li>It has all-round capability against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft will enable it to operate independently without supporting vessels, and also to function as the flagship of a Naval task force.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key points about Project 15B<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Project 15B (P15B) \/ Visakhapatnam-class is the latest destroyer design currently under construction for the Indian Navy.<\/li>\n<li>These ships have been designed indigenously by the\u00a0Indian Navy\u2019s Directorate of Naval Design, New Delhi.<\/li>\n<li>Each ship spans 163 meters in length and 17.4 meters in beam and displaces 7,300 tonnes.<\/li>\n<li>These ships will be propelled by four gas turbines to achieve speed in excess of 30 knots.<\/li>\n<li>According to the Indian Navy, the P15B destroyers incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, seakeeping, stealth, and maneuverability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is BrahMos?<\/h3>\n<p>It refers to a specific type of supersonic cruise missile developed by India.
