{"id":16140,"date":"2026-03-21T11:13:31","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T05:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16140"},"modified":"2026-03-21T14:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T09:16:17","slug":"pobitora-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pobitora-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has approved a proposal from the Assam Government to rationalise the boundary of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (PWS).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in <\/span><b>the state of Assam.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This wildlife sanctuary was <\/span><b>established in 1998.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary consists of the <\/span><b>Rajamayong Reserve Forest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Pobitora Reserve Forest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The region was once part of the vast floodplains of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/brahmaputra-river-system\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brahmaputra River<\/a><\/strong> and was known for its rich flora and fauna.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government of India included <\/span><b>Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the association of a rhino <\/span><b>breeding program named \u201cIndian Rhino Vision 2020\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The landscape is dominated by <\/span><b>alluvial grasslands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and dense patches of tall elephant grass.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">72% of Pabitora consists of the <\/span><b>wet savannah of Arundo donax<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Erianthus ravennae, Phragmites karka, Imperata cylindrica, and Saccharum spp.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Water hyacinth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Eichornia crassipes) is a major problem, especially to waterfowl, as it forms thick mats on the water surface.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is known for holding the highest density of <\/span><b>Greater One Horned Rhinoceros in the country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides rhinoceros, the other animals are leopard, wild boar, Barking deer, wild buffalo, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/nation\/2026\/Mar\/20\/national-board-for-wildlife-gives-nod-to-rationalisation-of-pobitora-sanctuary-in-assam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NIE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state of Assam.
