text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Patriot (<\/span><b>MIM-104<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), which stands for <\/span><b>Phased Array Tracking Radar for Intercept on Target<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is an <\/span><b>all-altitude, all-weather surface-to-air missile defense system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While initially designed as an antiaircraft system, newer variants of Patriot are capable of engaging ballistic and cruise missiles, loitering munitions, and aircraft.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is built by <\/span><b>Raytheon Technologies Corp.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a <\/span><b>US aerospace and defense company)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>United States Army\u2019s most advanced air defense system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a combat-proven air defence system o<\/span><b>perated by the US and a number of its allies, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including <\/span><b>Germany<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Greece, <\/span><b>Israel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Japan, Kuwait, the Netherlands, <\/span><b>Saudi Arabia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, South Korea, Poland, Sweden, <\/span><b>Qatar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>United Arab Emirates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Romania, Spain, and <\/span><b>Taiwan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system was <\/span><b>first used in combat during the 1991 Gulf War, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with batteries protecting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Israel, and later used during the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Patriot Air Defence Missile System <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>Patriot battery<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (i.e., the basic firing unit) <\/span><b>consists of a phased array radar,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an engagement <\/span><b>control station<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, computers, power generating equipment, and up to <\/span><b>eight launchers, each <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of which<\/span><b> holds four ready-to-fire missiles.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are about 90 soldiers assigned to a battery, but <\/span><b>three soldiers in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>engagement control station<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the only personnel <\/span><b>required to operate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the battery in combat.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is equipped with a <\/span><b>track-via-missile (TVM) guidance system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Midcourse correction commands <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are transmitted to the guidance system from the mobile engagement control centre.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system has<\/span><b> different capabilities depending on the type of interceptor used.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The PAC-2 interceptor uses a blast-fragmentation warhead, while the <\/span><b>newer PAC-3 missile uses more advanced hit-to-kill technology.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the version in use, the interceptor missiles can reach an altitude of more than 24 kilometers and <\/span><b>hit targets up to 160 kilometers away.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">The system\u2019s <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">radar has a range of over 150 km<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (93 miles).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/world\/story\/trump-to-give-ukraine-patriot-missiles-putin-talks-nice-then-bombs-russia-sanctions-2755302-2025-07-14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IT<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Patriot Air Defense Missile System is the U.S. Army&#8217;s most advanced system for intercepting enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles.
