{"id":16242,"date":"2023-10-23T04:38:57","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T23:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16242"},"modified":"2025-04-04T07:58:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T02:28:14","slug":"infantile-hypophosphatasia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/infantile-hypophosphatasia\/","title":{"rendered":"Infantile Hypophosphatasia"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Infantile Hypophosphatasia<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0rare genetic disease in which the patient\u2019s bones and teeth demineralise, making her fragile and prone to fractures.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Symptom\n<ul>\n<li>It may\u00a0have no noticeable abnormalities at birth, but complications become apparent within the first six months of life.<\/li>\n<li>The initial problem may be the baby\u2019s\u00a0failure to gain weight and grow as expected, referred to as \u201cfailure to thrive.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes the skull bones fuse, called craniosynostosis, which can lead to a deformed head (brachycephaly).<\/li>\n<li>Affected infants have softened, weakened and deformed bones consistent with rickets.<\/li>\n<li>Rickets is a general term for the complications due to defective skeletal mineralization during growth with softening of bone and characteristic bowing deformities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cause\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>It is caused by\u00a0mutations in the ALPL gene.<\/li>\n<li>This is the only gene that causes HPP. Genes provide instructions for making proteins that have an important function in the body.<\/li>\n<li>When a mutation occurs, the protein may be faulty, inefficient, or absent, as in HPP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>There is\u00a0no known cure for this disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is\u00a0Rickets?<\/h3>\n<p>Rickets is a medical condition that primarily affects children and is characterized by the weakening and softening of bones.
