{"id":16259,"date":"2023-10-25T07:51:20","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T02:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16259"},"modified":"2025-04-04T08:04:39","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T02:34:39","slug":"ib","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ib\/","title":{"rendered":"Intelligence Bureau (IB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Intelligence Bureau (IB)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>IB is an\u00a0internal intelligence agency of India\u00a0which is used to\u00a0gather intelligence from within India and also execute counter-intelligence and\u00a0counter-terrorism tasks.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to domestic intelligence responsibilities, the IB is particularly\u00a0tasked with intelligence collection in border areas, following the 1951 recommendations of the Himmatsinhji Committee (also known as the North and North-East Border Committee), a task entrusted to military intelligence organizations, prior to independence in 1947.<\/li>\n<li>It comes\u00a0under the administrative control of the\u00a0Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/li>\n<li>The IB activities are highly confidential, and no publications other than the internal ones reveal their arcane workings.<\/li>\n<li>Other Functions:\n<ul>\n<li>Another major activity of the IB is\u00a0passing on intelligence information to other Indian intelligence agencies as well as the police.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0responsible for granting basic safety clearances to Indian diplomats\u00a0and judges before their national oath.<\/li>\n<li>It is also authorized to carry out wiretapping without a warrant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Composition:\n<ul>\n<li>The Bureau comprises\u00a0employees from law enforcement agencies,\u00a0mostly from the Indian Police Service (IPS)\u00a0or the Indian Revenue Service (IRS),\u00a0and the military.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Director of Intelligence Bureau (DIB)\u00a0has\u00a0always been an IPS officer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Right To Information (RTI) Act, 2005?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a law enacted by the Parliament of India &#8220;to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens. The Right to Information is derived from our fundamental right of Expression under Article 19 of the Constitution of India. The Act applies to all States and Union Territories of India. Under the provisions of the Act, any citizen may request information from a &#8220;public authority&#8221; (a body of Government or &#8220;instrumentality of State&#8221;) by making an application in writing or through electronic means.
