{"id":16319,"date":"2023-10-26T12:29:52","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T06:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16319"},"modified":"2025-04-04T08:28:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T02:58:27","slug":"unff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/unff\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About United Nations Forum on Forests<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It promotes the\u00a0management, conservation, and sustainable development of all types of forests.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0established in 2000 by the UN Economic and Social Council of the United Nations\u00a0(ECOSOC).<\/li>\n<li>The Forum meets annually at the UN Headquarters in New York, bringing together representatives of all member states and forests-related agencies for\u00a0high-level dialogue on technical matters in odd years and policy matters in even years.<\/li>\n<li>The forum\u00a0has universal membership, and is composed of\u00a0all Member States of the United Nations and specialized agencies.<\/li>\n<li>India is a founding member of UNFF.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is a Country-Led Initiative (CLI)?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Its primary goal is to contribute to the discussions of UNFF regarding the implementation of\u00a0Sustainable Forest Management and\u00a0the UN Strategic Plan for Forests.<\/li>\n<li>It also aims to facilitate the sharing of best practices among UNFF member States for the implementation of SFM and the UNSPF.<\/li>\n<li>This year CLI will discuss thematic areas involving forest fires and forest certification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is ECOSOC?<\/h3>\n<p>The &#8220;Economic and Social Council&#8221; of the United Nations is one of the principal organs of the UN and plays a crucial role in promoting international economic and social cooperation and development.
