style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>marginal sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Western Pacific Ocean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located in East Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>extends northeastward from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>South China Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to which it is <\/span><b>connected by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the shallow <\/span><b>Taiwan Strait<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between Taiwan and mainland China.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Korea Strait connects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it to the <\/span><b>Sea of Japan.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>To the north<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the East China Sea <\/span><b>opens up into the Yellow Sea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>To the east<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you&#8217;ll find <\/span><b>Ky\u016bsh\u016b and the Ryukyu Islands of Japan.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>East China Sea and the South China Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> together<\/span><b> form the China Sea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In China<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, people often<\/span><b> call it the East Sea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>countries which border<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the sea include <\/span><b>South Korea, Japan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Republic of China <\/span><b>(Taiwan), and the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an area of about 750,000 sq.km. and is<\/span><b> largely shallow;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> almost three-fourths of the sea is less than 650 feet (200 metres).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Rivers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The<\/span><b> Yellow River (Huanghe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the<\/span><b> Yangtze River (Changjiang) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">discharge into the East China Sea.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weather in the region is dominated by the<\/span><b> monsoon winds.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The region is influenced by the <\/span><b>Tsushima and Kuroshio Currents <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as by a strong upwelling area northeast of Taiwan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The sea contains several islands, with the most significant being the<\/span><b> Ryukyu Islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which are<\/span><b> part of Japan, a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd the<\/span><b> Senkaku\/Diaoyu Islands.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>China, Taiwan, and Japan <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all<\/span><b> claim sovereignty over the Senkaku <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">islands, which are <\/span><b>under Japanese administration.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a huge presence of <\/span><b>submerged reefs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the northern region, such as <\/span><b>Yajiao Rock, Hupijiao Rock, and Socotra Rock.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approximately <\/span><b>35% of global petroleum and petroleum product shipments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> traveled through the East China Sea in 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a
