


{"id":16454,"date":"2025-10-26T12:57:59","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T07:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16454"},"modified":"2025-10-27T11:00:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:30:12","slug":"subansiri-hydroelectric-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/subansiri-hydroelectric-power\/","title":{"rendered":"Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s largest hydroelectric project, the 2000-MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, has begun its commissioning phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>2000 MW run-of-the-river hydro project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being constructed on the <\/span><b>Subansiri River, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><b>tributary of the Brahmaputra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at Gerukamukh on the <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh\u2013Assam border.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be the <\/span><b>single largest hydroelectric plant in India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when completed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is being developed by the state-run <\/span><b>National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>construction <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the project has been <\/span><b>underway since 2005.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>project cost <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was met through <\/span><b>70% equity and 30% debt financing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the provision of a term loan. The <\/span><b>central government is providing budgetary support <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as part of the equity component.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of a<\/span><b> concrete gravity dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will be 116 m high from the riverbed level and 130 m from the foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The length of the dam will be 284 m.
