


{"id":16522,"date":"2023-10-31T05:52:08","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T00:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16522"},"modified":"2025-04-04T19:59:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T14:29:41","slug":"carbon-nanoflorets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/carbon-nanoflorets\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon nanoflorets"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Carbon nanoflorets<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are like tiny marigold flowers\u00a0made only of carbon which are called as the material carbon nanoflorets.<\/li>\n<li>Process of synthesis\n<ul>\n<li>Researchers heated a special form of\u00a0silicon dust called DFNS (for dendritic fibrous nanosilica) in a furnace.<\/li>\n<li>Once heated, she introduced acetylene gas into the chamber.<\/li>\n<li>The white powder turned black \u2013 a sign that carbon had been deposited on the DFNS.<\/li>\n<li>Then they collected the black powder and treated it with a strong chemical that dissolved the DFNS away, leaving carbon particles behind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The structure of the silicon particles \u2013 50-1,200 nanometers in size \u2013 resembled spikes arranged around a sphere.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Observation\n<ul>\n<li>They reported that these nanoflorets could\u00a0absorb sunlight at many frequencies and\u00a0convert it to heat with an unprecedented efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>The nanoflorets also didn\u2019t easily dissipate the heat generated into the environment, making the material a good candidate to heat.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The nanoflorets\u00a0converted the light energy they absorbed into thermal energy\u00a0\u2013 a process called solar-thermal conversion \u2013 with a remarkable efficiency of 87%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The carbon\u00a0nanoflorets\u2019 high efficiency comes\u00a0from three properties.\n<ul>\n<li>The nanoflorets\u00a0absorb three frequencies in sunlight \u2013 infrared, visible light,\u00a0and ultraviolet while other common materials absorb only visible and ultraviolet light.<\/li>\n<li>Shape: As light falls on the material, the carbon cones ensure that very little is reflected back.<\/li>\n<li>Long-range disorder: Parts of the structure at some distance from each other possess\u00a0different physical properties.\u00a0As a result, heat waves in the material aren\u2019t carried over long distances,\u00a0reducing the amount of heat dissipated away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Infrared (IR) radiation?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that lies between visible light and microwaves.
