


{"id":16561,"date":"2023-11-02T01:32:14","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T20:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16561"},"modified":"2025-04-04T20:17:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T14:47:55","slug":"state-food-safety-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/state-food-safety-index\/","title":{"rendered":"State Food Safety Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About State Food Safety Index<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Index is an annual assessment released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0started from 2018-19 with the aim of creating a competitive and positive change in the food safety ecosystem in the country.<\/li>\n<li>The index will help in providing\u00a0safe and nutritious food to our citizens.<\/li>\n<li>This index is based on the performance of the State\/ UT on\u00a0five significant parameters, namely,\n<ul>\n<li>Human Resources and Institutional Data, Compliance, Food Testing \u2013 Infrastructure and Surveillance, Training &amp; Capacity Building and Consumer Empowerment.<\/li>\n<li>In the 2023 index, a new parameter called\u00a0\u2018Improvement in SFSI Rank\u2019 was added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Index is a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model that provides an objective framework for evaluating food safety across all States\/UTs.<\/li>\n<li>The States\/UTs are classified into\u00a03\u00a0categories namely Large States, Small States and UTs for the evaluation and assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key findings of the report<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>After adjusting for a new parameter included in the 2023 index, 15 out of 20 states recorded lower 2023 scores compared to 2019.<\/li>\n<li>The steepest fall in scores over five years was seen in Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat,<\/li>\n<li>The worst drop has been recorded in the \u2018Food Testing Infrastructure\u2019 parameter.<\/li>\n<li>States including Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh all recorded lower scores for this parameter.<\/li>\n<li>Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, meanwhile, recorded lower scores\u00a0for the \u2018Compliance\u2019 parameter.<\/li>\n<li>The \u2018Human Resources and Institutional Data\u2019 parameter, which was given the third highest weightage of 18 per cent in 2023 (20 per cent in previous years)<\/li>\n<li>The only parameter which\u00a0recorded significant improvement was \u2018Training and Capacity Building\u2019, which was given the least weightage of 8 per cent in 2023 (10 per cent in previous years).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the regulatory body responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of food products in India. It was established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
