{"id":16670,"date":"2023-11-04T11:28:31","date_gmt":"2023-11-04T05:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16670"},"modified":"2025-04-04T22:30:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T17:00:51","slug":"adaptation-gap-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/adaptation-gap-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Adaptation Gap Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Adaptation Gap Report<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is annually published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since\u00a02014.<\/li>\n<li>The aim of the reports is to inform national and international efforts to advance adaptation.<\/li>\n<li>It provides an update on the\u00a0global status and progress of the adaptation process across three elements: planning, financing, and implementation.<\/li>\n<li>It complements the Emissions Gap Report series, and explores the implications of failing to close the emissions gap.<\/li>\n<li>It is co-produced by the\u00a0UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) and the\u00a0World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key findings of the report<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is estimated that\u00a0adaptation costs will increase significantly by 2050 for most sectors, especially under high-warming scenarios.<\/li>\n<li>The adaptation finance\u00a0needs are 10-18 times as high as the current international public adaptation fund flows.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The world countries must urgently cut greenhouse gas emissions and increase adaptation efforts to protect vulnerable populations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In 2021, funding by developed countries to developing countries for adaptation projects was 15% lower than the previous years.<\/li>\n<li>It identifies seven ways to bridge the adaptation gap, which include an increase in\u00a0international finance flows, and\u00a0greater domestic mobilisation of resources.<\/li>\n<li>Also it calls for a\u00a0reform of global financial architecture, to ensure greater and easier access to finance for climate-related purposes from multilateral agencies the World Bank or the IMF.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the United Nations Environment Programme?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a specialized agency of the United Nations system dedicated to addressing global environmental issues and promoting sustainable development.
