{"id":16724,"date":"2023-11-06T09:37:37","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T04:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16724"},"modified":"2025-04-04T22:49:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T17:19:55","slug":"alycaeus-himalayae","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/alycaeus-himalayae\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Alycaeus Himalayae?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Alycaeus Himalayae<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0new snail species belonging to the\u00a0genus Alycaeus.<\/li>\n<li>Alycaeus is a\u00a0genus of small land snails.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0genus is the first to be reported in India, as this\u00a0genus is restricted to Southeast Asia\u00a0and not known in the Indian region.<\/li>\n<li>This new species\u00a0differs from all other\u00a0Himalayan alycaeid species due to its yellowish, conical shell.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0most similar shell\u00a0in the\u00a0vicinity is Stomacosmethis spratti from the Shan States,\u00a0Myanmar.<\/li>\n<li>It differs from all other Alycaeus species by the characteristic trumpet-like projection\u00a0on the\u00a0outer side of the operculum.<\/li>\n<li>It is, so far, the\u00a0only Alycaeus species inhabiting the Himalayas.<\/li>\n<li>All other known Alycaeus\u00a0species are reported from Laos, Vietnam, southern Thailand, and Peninsular\u00a0Malaysia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Snails?<\/h3>\n<p>Snails are a species of mollusks that belong to the family of gastropods. They are easily identifiable by their spiral shell, which they retract into when they are in danger or are resting.
