The first powered flight test of the Bulava missile occurred in September 2005. It\u2019s first submerged test launch followed in December.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0designed to be deployed onto Russia\u2019s\u00a0Borey-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN\u2019s).<\/li>\n<li>Features:<\/li>\n<li>It was designed to be the backbone of Moscow&#8217;s nuclear triad and has a\u00a0range of over 8,000 kilometres (close to 5,000 miles).<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a012-13.5 m in length and has a\u00a0diameter of approximately 2.0 m.<\/li>\n<li>Launch Weight: 36,800 kg<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0three-stage solid-fuel missile.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0designed to carry multiple\u00a0warheads. Each warhead will strike a different target.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It can\u00a0carry 6 Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs). These MIRVs\u00a0capable of maneuvering in-flight and re-targeting, in order to outmaneuver hostile air defenses.<\/li>\n<li>It is stated that this missile has an\u00a0accuracy of 350 m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is a Ballistic Missile?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0rocket-propelled self-guided strategic weapon system that\u00a0follows a ballistic trajectory to deliver a payload from its launch site to a predetermined target.<\/li>\n<li>Ballistic missiles are\u00a0powered initially by a rocket\u00a0or series of rockets in stages, but\u00a0then follow an unpowered trajectory that arches upwards before descending to reach their intended target.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Ballistic missiles can\u00a0carry either nuclear or conventional warheads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV)?<\/h3>\n<p>MIRVs were originally developed in the early 1960s to permit a missile to deliver multiple nuclear warheads to different targets. In contrast to a traditional missile, which carries one warhead, MIRVs can carry multiple warheads.Warheads on MIRVed missiles can be released from the missile at different speeds and in different directions. Some MIRVed missiles can hit targets as far as 1,500 kilometers apart.
