{"id":16780,"date":"2023-11-07T12:39:42","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T07:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16780"},"modified":"2025-04-04T23:11:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T17:41:05","slug":"cic-polity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cic-polity\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Information Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Central Information Commission<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been constituted under\u00a0the Right to Information Act, 2005.<\/li>\n<li>The jurisdiction of the Commission\u00a0extends over all Central Public Authorities.<\/li>\n<li>Objectives\n<ul>\n<li>To exercise the powers conferred on them under the RTI Act, 2005.<\/li>\n<li>To\u00a0receive and inquire into complaints from any citizen (Section 18 of the RTI Act, 2005).<\/li>\n<li>To receive and decide upon\u00a0the second appeal from any citizen (Section 19 of the RTI Act, 2005).<\/li>\n<li>To perform the duty of \u201cMonitoring and Reporting \u201c(Section 25 of the RTI Act, 2005).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Composition\n<ul>\n<li>It consists of a\u00a0Chief Information Commissioner and not more than ten Information Commissioners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Appointment:\n<ul>\n<li>They are appointed\u00a0by the President of India on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the\u00a0Prime Minister as Chairperson, the\u00a0Leader of Opposition in the\u00a0Lok Sabha, and a\u00a0Union Cabinet Minister nominated by the Prime Minister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility\n<ul>\n<li>The members of CIC and SIC shall be\u00a0persons of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media, or administration and governance.<\/li>\n<li>Members\u00a0shall not be a Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislature of any State or Union Territory as the case may be, or\u00a0hold any other office of profit or connected with any political party or carry on any business or pursue any profession.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Tenure\n<ul>\n<li>The Chief Information Commissioner, or Information Commissioners, as the case may be, shall hold office for a\u00a0period of three years from the date on which he enters upon his office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Right to Information Act?<\/h3>\n<p>It is often abbreviated as RTI, is a legislation in India that was enacted to promote transparency, accountability, and accountability in the functioning of government institutions and agencies.
