{"id":1680,"date":"2025-01-03T18:09:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T12:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=1680"},"modified":"2025-01-12T16:12:50","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T10:42:50","slug":"pallass-cats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pallass-cats\/","title":{"rendered":"Pallas\u2019s Cats"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Pallas\u2019s Cat:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Pallas\u2019s cat, or manul<\/strong> (Otocolobus manul), is a <strong>small, long-haired cat<\/strong> (family Felidae).<\/li>\n<li>It was named Pallas\u2019s cat after Peter Simon Pallas, who first described it in 1776 based on specimens collected near Lake Baikal, Russia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>They are primarily found in <strong>Central Asia,<\/strong> with their range extending to western <strong>Iran, Mongolia, China, Russia<\/strong> (on the border of Mongolia and China), <strong>Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In these regions, these cats inhabit <strong>mountainous plains and semi-desert foothills<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>soft-furred animal<\/strong> about the <strong>size of a house cat<\/strong> and is <strong>pale silvery gray or light brown in colour.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Head and body length ranges from 45 to 60 centimetres (18 to 24 inches) with an additional 23\u201330 cm for the tail; weight ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 kilograms (5.5 to 7.7 pounds).<\/li>\n<li>The Pallas\u2019s cat is <strong>distinguished by abroad head with high-set eyes<\/strong> and <strong>low-set ears.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>end of its tail is ringed<\/strong> and <strong>tipped with black<\/strong>, and some individuals have vague, dark markings on the body.<\/li>\n<li>The fur of the underparts is about twice as long as that of the upperparts and possibly represents an adaptation to the cat\u2019s habitual lying and crouching on cold ground.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservation Status:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN Red List: Least Concern<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>CITES: Appendix II<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is a snow leopard?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a large, long-haired Asian cat, classified as either Panthera uncia or Uncia uncia in the family Felidae. Snow leopards live across a vast area in northern and central Asia&#8217;s high mountains, including the Himalayan region. In the Himalayas, they live in high alpine areas, mostly above the tree line and up to 18,000 feet in elevation.
