{"id":16839,"date":"2023-11-09T11:00:35","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T05:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16839"},"modified":"2025-04-04T23:38:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T18:08:56","slug":"sar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sar\/","title":{"rendered":"Stable Auroral Arc (SAR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Stable Auroral Arc<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a rare atmospheric phenomenon which was observed during a strong G3-class\u00a0geomagnetic storm.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike auroras, which occur when charged particles from space hit the atmosphere causing it to glow, SAR arcs form differently.<\/li>\n<li>They are an indication of\u00a0heat energy leaking into the upper atmosphere from Earth&#8217;s ring current system, a donut-shaped circuit carrying millions of amps around our planet.<\/li>\n<li>During the recent geomagnetic storm, the ring current was energised by hours of intense geomagnetic activity, with energy dissipating into these SAR arcs.<\/li>\n<li>This global event was registered in many parts of the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How does Aurora form?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is formed when the\u00a0sun is ejecting charged particles from its corona, creating solar wind. When that wind slams into Earth&#8217;s ionosphere, the aurora is born.<\/li>\n<li>In the Northern Hemisphere, the phenomenon is called the\u00a0northern lights (aurora borealis), while in the Southern Hemisphere, it&#8217;s called the\u00a0southern lights (aurora australis).<\/li>\n<li>The hemispheric asymmetry of the aurora is due in part to the\u00a0sun&#8217;s magnetic field interfering with Earth&#8217;s magnetic field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\u00a0Q1) What is\u00a0ionosphere?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a region of Earth&#8217;s upper atmosphere, extending from about 48 kilometers to up to 600 kilometers above the Earth&#8217;s surface.
