


{"id":1684,"date":"2025-01-04T11:41:25","date_gmt":"2025-01-04T06:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=1684"},"modified":"2025-01-12T16:12:50","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T10:42:50","slug":"what-is-incineration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-incineration\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Incineration?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>About Incineration:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Incineration is the process of <strong>burning hazardous materials at temperatures high enough to destroy contaminants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Incineration is conducted <strong>in an \u201cincinerator<\/strong>,\u201d which is a <strong>type of furnace<\/strong> designed for burning hazardous materials in a combustion chamber.<\/li>\n<li>Many different types of <strong>hazardous materials<\/strong> can be treated by incineration, <strong>including soil, sludge, liquids, and gases.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Although it destroys many kinds of harmful chemicals, such as solvents, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), and pesticides, incineration <strong>does not destroy metals, such as lead and chromium.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Waste incineration <strong>can be a form of waste-to-energy<\/strong> because the heat generated during combustion can be used to create electricity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How Does It Work?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Hazardous materials must be excavated or pumped into containers before incineration.<\/li>\n<li>They may require further preparation, such as grinding or removing large rocks and debris, or removing excess water.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>materials<\/strong> are then <strong>placed in the combustion chamber<\/strong> of an incinerator where they are <strong>heated to an extremely high temperature<\/strong> for a specified period of time.<\/li>\n<li>The temperature and length of time depend on the types of wastes and contaminants present.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Air or pure oxygen may be added<\/strong> to the chamber to supply the oxygen needed <strong>for burning.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>As the wastes heat up, the <strong>contaminants volatilize<\/strong> (change into gases), and <strong>most are destroyed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Gases<\/strong> that are <strong>not destroyed pass through a secondary combustion chamber<\/strong> for further heating and destruction.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>resulting gases then pass through air pollution control equipment,<\/strong> which removes particulate matter (extremely small particles or liquid droplets) and \u201cacid gases.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is combustion?<\/h3>\n<p>Combustion is a chemical process in which a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen and gives off heat.
