{"id":16971,"date":"2023-11-15T10:15:55","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T04:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16971"},"modified":"2025-04-05T01:16:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T19:46:15","slug":"kangri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kangri\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Kangri?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Kangri<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Kangri, also known as\u00a0Kanger or Kangid, is\u00a0earthenware filled with glowing embers and\u00a0encased in\u00a0pretty\u00a0handmade wicker baskets.<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0portable and moving heater that\u00a0Kashmiris keep in their pheran, a long woollen cloak reaching down to the knees\u00a0worn by people during the frosty winters.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0pot can hold about 250 grams of\u00a0charcoal, and the fire lasts for hours under a pheran.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0keeps people warm during the harsh winter months, when temperatures can drop below minus 20 degrees.<\/li>\n<li>How is it made?\n<ul>\n<li>It is known for its\u00a0outer shell made of willow wicker reeds\u00a0that grow abundantly\u00a0in the wetlands of north Kashmir\u2019s Ganderbal district.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These\u00a0reeds\u00a0can reach eight feet in height and are\u00a0harvested during autumn, just before demand for the fire pots swells.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These then\u00a0go through a multi-layered\u00a0process of\u00a0scraping and peeling to get rid of the bark,\u00a0soaking, boiling,\u00a0and drying\u00a0before\u00a0they are ready to be woven around a bowl-shaped clay pot.<\/li>\n<li>The earthenware is\u00a0decorated with colourful threads, mirrorwork, and sequins and is about six inches (150 mm) in diametre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are sequins?<\/h3>\n<p>Sequins are small, shiny, and often disc-shaped embellishments that are commonly used for decorative purposes, especially in the fashion and textile industry.
