{"id":17056,"date":"2023-11-17T03:37:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T22:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17056"},"modified":"2025-04-05T01:50:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T20:20:37","slug":"avangard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/avangard\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Avangard?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Avangard<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Avangard is a\u00a0nuclear-capable, hypersonic boost-glide vehicle (HGV) developed by the\u00a0Russian Federation.<\/li>\n<li>It was developed as part of the top-secret Project 4202 and given the codename Yu-71.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0one of six \u201cnext generation\u201d weapons\u00a0described by Russian President Vladimir Putin\u00a0during a speech in March 2018.<\/li>\n<li>Features:\n<ul>\n<li>It has a\u00a0range of over 6,000 km,\u00a0weighs\u00a0approximately 2,000 kg, and can\u00a0carry a nuclear or conventional payload.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0carried on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).<\/li>\n<li>It has \u201ca\u00a0short wedge-shaped design\u201d which\u00a0does not contain\u00a0a separate propulsion system,\u00a0relying on gravity and\u00a0its\u00a0aerodynamic features to maintain velocity after an initial boost.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Working:\n<ul>\n<li>The HGV is\u00a0carried to a sub-orbital altitude of around\u00a0100 kilometers (62 miles)\u00a0by the carrier missile\u00a0before being released.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0then enters into a \u201ccruise mode\u201d before re-entering the atmosphere\u00a0and\u00a0accelerating to claimed\u00a0hypersonic speeds\u00a0of up to Mach 27 (about 32,000 kilometers per hour).<\/li>\n<li>It is said to be\u00a0able to maneuver at these speeds\u00a0and constantly alter its trajectory,\u00a0making interception extremely complicated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)?<\/h3>\n<p>Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) were first deployed by the United States in 1959 and continue to be a critical weapon in the American nuclear arsenal today.
