{"id":17092,"date":"2023-11-14T01:14:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T19:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17092"},"modified":"2025-04-05T02:06:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T20:36:37","slug":"new-gecko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-gecko\/","title":{"rendered":"New Gecko species"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About New Gecko species<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The new species has been named \u2018Cyrtodactylus vairengtensis\u2019 after the town in Mizoram where it was found.<\/li>\n<li>The common name suggested for the new species is \u2018Vairengte bent-toed gecko\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>The distinct feature of this new species is the number of\u00a0femoral pores which distinguishes it from other members of the Cyrtodactylus family.\n<ul>\n<li>Femoral pores are located on the underside of the hind legs in lizards that secrete a\u00a0mixture of lipids and proteins and are thought to be used to attract mates and mark territories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0endemic to Mizoram, taking the number of geckos native to the state to 6, and 22 across northeast India.<\/li>\n<li>There are 335 gecko species across the world, of which 42 are found in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Gecko?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are reptiles and are found on\u00a0all the continents except Antarctica.<\/li>\n<li>These colorful lizards have adapted to habitats from rainforests, to deserts, to cold mountain slopes.<\/li>\n<li>These are mostly small, usually nocturnal reptiles.<\/li>\n<li>Geckos are\u00a0spread across six families: Carphodactylidae, Diplodactylidae, Eublepharidae, Gekkonidae, Phyllodactylidae, and Sphaerodactylidae.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Reptiles?<\/h3>\n<p>These are a diverse group of vertebrates known for their scaly skin, laying soft-shelled eggs, and generally cold-blooded nature.
