{"id":17116,"date":"2023-11-18T12:48:22","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T07:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17116"},"modified":"2025-04-05T02:15:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T20:45:40","slug":"dwarf-planet-eris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dwarf-planet-eris\/","title":{"rendered":"Dwarf Planet Eris"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Dwarf Planet Eris<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was discovered on Jan. 5, 2005.<\/li>\n<li>It is named after the ancient\u00a0Greek goddess of discord.<\/li>\n<li>It is a member of a group of objects that orbit in a disc-like zone\u00a0beyond the orbit of Neptune called the Kuiper Belt.<\/li>\n<li>It appears to have a\u00a0rocky interior below a shell of ice.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It has about 25%\u00a0more mass than Pluto.<\/li>\n<li>Eris orbits at an average of\u00a0about 68 times further from the sun than Earth, taking 557 years to complete one orbit.<\/li>\n<li>It completes one rotation every 25.9 hours, making its day length similar to ours.<\/li>\n<li>It has a very small\u00a0moon called Dysnomia which has a nearly circular orbit lasting about 16 days.<\/li>\n<li>Just like the Earth-moon system, tides on Eris slowly push Dysnomia away and slow down the spin of Eris and this process has gone to completion.<\/li>\n<li>Eris and Dysnomia\u00a0always present the same face to the other.<\/li>\n<li>Atmosphere\n<ul>\n<li>The dwarf planet is often so far from the Sun that its atmosphere collapses and freezes, falling to the surface as snow.<\/li>\n<li>As it gets closest to the Sun in its faraway orbit, the atmosphere thaws.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Dwarf Planet?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a celestial body\u00a0that -orbits the sun, has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape,\u00a0has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit and is not a moon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Kuiper Belt?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a vast region of the outer solar system beyond Neptune. This area is home to a significant number of icy bodies, dwarf planets, and remnants from the early formation of the solar system. It is significantly larger and contains different types of objects.
