{"id":17132,"date":"2023-11-18T06:42:28","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T01:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17132"},"modified":"2025-04-05T02:21:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T20:51:48","slug":"new-plant-species","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-plant-species\/","title":{"rendered":"New plant species"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About New plant species<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The new species\u00a0Musseanda conferta and\u00a0Rungia longistachya were discovered during recent explorations by BSI scientists.<\/li>\n<li>Musseanda conferta\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>It was discovered\u00a0from the rocky areas of\u00a0Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary and is related to the\u00a0Musseanda hirsutisima family.<\/li>\n<li>It prefers the vicinity of rocks in the high-altitude grassland ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>It has attractive flowers and the\u00a0ornamental potential of this plant can be explored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Rungia longistachya\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>It belongs to the family of\u00a0Acanthaceae.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It was discovered from the\u00a0moist places of Anamalai regions near the Idukki dam site in Kerala.<\/li>\n<li>The plant is an herb and grows in the\u00a0margins of evergreen forests.<\/li>\n<li>Only eleven species of Rungia have been reported from the Western Ghats and the newly discovered plant has got distinct narrow long spike with long slender peduncle and light pinkish white flowers,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key facts about Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the Kanyakumari district of\u00a0Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n<li>It is situated near the\u00a0southernmost tip of India at the confluence point of\u00a0three major water bodies namely; Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean.<\/li>\n<li>Seven rivers have their origin in this forest including the famous\u00a0Pahrali and Thamirabarani rivers.<\/li>\n<li>Vegetation: This region represents southern thorn forests, dry deciduous, moist deciduous, semi evergreen forests and ever green hill sholas with grassy downs.<\/li>\n<li>Fauna: It is home to Indian Bison, Elephant, Nilgiri Tahr, Sambar Deer, Lion-tailed Macaque and also reptiles such as Indian Rock Python.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) Where is the Thamirabarani River?<\/h3>\n<p>The Thamirabarani River is a significant river in southern India, flowing through the state of Tamil Nadu.
