{"id":17136,"date":"2026-07-05T13:15:57","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T07:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17136"},"modified":"2026-07-06T18:02:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T12:32:07","slug":"sea-buckthorn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sea-buckthorn\/","title":{"rendered":"Seabuckthorn"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Seabuckthorn Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Spiti\u2019s seabuckthorn has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) status.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Seabuckthorn<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is popularly known as the \u2018<\/span><b>Wonder Plant\u2019, \u2018Ladakh Gold\u2019, \u2018Golden Bush\u2019, or \u2018Gold Mine\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of cold deserts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an important plant of <\/span><b>trans-Himalayan region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that belongs to the <\/span><b>family Elaegnaceae.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a plant found throughout <\/span><b>Europe and Asia.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>In India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is found above the <\/span><b>tree line in the Himalayan region,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> generally in dry areas such as the <\/span><b>cold deserts of Ladakh and Spiti.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It produces small <\/span><b>orange or yellow-coloured berries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are sour in taste but rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sea Buckthorn berries have a unique characteristic of remaining intact on the shrub throughout the winter <\/span><b>months despite the subzero temperature.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Climatic and Soil Requirements Sea buckthorn<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>temperate crop<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and therefore its cultivation can be done only in temperate regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can withstand a wide range of temperatures from -43 to 40\u00b0C.
