The researchers pegged it at redshift 3.44,\u00a0meaning it\u2019s situated in the early universe. (Redshift refers to the way light stretches as it travels longer distances through time, with\u00a0higher redshifts indicating an object is older).<\/li>\n<li>A redshift of 3.44 would\u00a0mean\u00a0light from the Cosmic Vine\u00a0has been traveling for between\u00a011 and 12 billion years before reaching JWST. To provide context,\u00a0current methods estimate the universe&#8217;s age at 13.7 billion years.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0harbors two of the most massive galaxies ever discovered at such a high redshift\u2014Galaxy A and Galaxy E,\u00a0both\u00a0in a quiescent state,\u00a0indicating a reduced rate of star formation.<\/li>\n<li>Researchers believe that the\u00a0Vine might serve as the precursor to a galaxy cluster,\u00a0providing insights into the formation of such\u00a0clusters and the emergence of massive galaxies within them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is a Light Year?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A light-year is a\u00a0measurement of distance and not time (as the name might imply).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is the\u00a0distance a beam of light travels in a single Earth year, which\u00a0equates to approximately\u00a06 trillion miles (9.7 trillion kilometers).<\/li>\n<li>It is used to measure the vast distances of space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)?<\/h3>\n<p>It was built in collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency and was launched in December 2021.
