It is the process\u00a0of conveying a false impression or misleading information\u00a0about how a company\u2019s products are environmentally sound.<\/li>\n<li>Greenwashing involves making an unsubstantiated claim\u00a0to deceive consumers into believing that a\u00a0company\u2019s products are environmentally friendly or have a greater positive environmental impact\u00a0than they actually do.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, greenwashing may occur when a company attempts to emphasize sustainable aspects of a product\u00a0to overshadow its involvement\u00a0in environmentally damaging practices.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Companies can also greenwash initiatives\u00a0with vague claims that don&#8217;t provide real data\u00a0or scientific validation for the claims.<\/li>\n<li>For example, a car vendor claims that a vehicle is eco-friendly because it is more fuel-efficient, while failing to mention or consider the larger industrial impact of vehicle manufacturing on the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Facts about Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0voluntary self-regulatory organization\u00a0of the\u00a0advertising industry in India.<\/li>\n<li>Established in 1985, ASCI is\u00a0registered as a non-profit company under Section 25 of the\u00a0Company Act.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0comprises of members from marketing, creative,\u00a0media, and allied companies in India.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0committed to the cause of self-regulation in advertising, ensuring the protection of the interests of consumers.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>ASCI\u00a0seeks to ensure that\u00a0advertisements conform to its Code for Self-Regulation, which requires advertisements to be legal, decent, honest, and truthful, and not hazardous or harmful while observing fairness in competition.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0looks into complaints across all media, such as Print, TV, Radio, hoardings, SMS, Emailers, Internet\/web-site, product packaging, brochures, promotional material, and point-of-sale material, etc.<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0part of the Executive Committee of the International Council on Ad Self-Regulation (ICAS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the International Council on Ad Self-Regulation (ICAS)?<\/h3>\n<p>ICAS is a global platform which promotes effective advertising self-regulation.
