{"id":17296,"date":"2025-11-08T11:17:29","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T05:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17296"},"modified":"2025-11-08T15:31:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T10:01:55","slug":"nws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nws\/","title":{"rendered":"Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A farmer was recently killed in a tiger attack near Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary in Mysuru.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is situated in the Mysuru district, <\/span><b>Karnataka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies <\/span><b>north of Bandipur National Park.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers about 30 sq.km., and the <\/span><b>northern part<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the sanctuary is <\/span><b>occupied by the Nugu Reservoir.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Nugu Dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is built across the<\/span><b> Nugu River, a tributary of the Cauvery.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the year 1974, Nugu was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary, and later, during the year <\/span><b>2003-2004,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the area of <\/span><b>Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary was added to the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rainfall<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The area receives rainfall <\/span><b>from both southwest and northeast monsoons. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The average amount of rainfall received in this area is 1000 mm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Most of the vegetation in the forests is <\/span><b>dry deciduous interspersed with patches of plantations.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Some of the tree species found in this region include <\/span><b>Dipterocarpus indicus, Calophyllum tomentosum, and Hopea parviflora.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary supports a diverse range of fauna, including <\/span><b>elephants, tigers, leopards, wild dogs, striped hyenas, sloth bears, gaurs,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sambhars, chitals, and four-horned antelopes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also home to two important<\/span><b> riverine wildlife species:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>smooth-coated otter and the marsh crocodile,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emphasizing its rich biodiversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\">The area is also rich in <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">avifauna <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with birds like <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">peafowl, India rind dove, Grey Jungle Fowl, Brahminy kite, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grey headed fish eagle, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/states\/karnataka\/2025\/Nov\/07\/farmer-killed-in-tiger-attack-near-nugu-wildlife-sanctuary-in-mysuru\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NIE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Mysuru district, Karnataka.
