{"id":17312,"date":"2023-11-23T12:11:43","date_gmt":"2023-11-23T06:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17312"},"modified":"2025-04-05T03:30:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T22:00:06","slug":"ittc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ittc\/","title":{"rendered":"International Tropical Timber Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About International Tropical Timber Council<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the\u00a0governing body of the\u00a0International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO).<\/li>\n<li>It meets at\u00a0least once a year to discuss a wide-ranging agenda aimed at promoting sustainable tropical forest management and the trade of sustainably produced tropical timber.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Major decisions in 59<sup>th<\/sup> ITTC<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The countries agreed to endorse\u00a0eight projects related to\u00a0sustainable forest management and related objectives.<\/li>\n<li>The session also approved and\u00a0adopted a budget of $7.1 million for the coming\u00a0financial year 2024-25.<\/li>\n<li>The council also approved a trial measure that will allow ineligible members to submit project proposals and concept notes.<\/li>\n<li>Members who have fallen behind on their financial contributions and are thus ineligible will be allowed to submit one project and concept note for every two years of arrears paid.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key facts about International Tropical Timber Organisation<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0intergovernmental organization promoting the sustainable management and conservation of tropical forests and the expansion and diversification of international trade in tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested forests.<\/li>\n<li>It was established under the\u00a0International Tropical Timber Agreement 1983 (ITTA 1983), negotiated under the auspices of the\u00a0UN Conference on Trade and Development.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It facilitates\u00a0funding for forestry projects in tropical timber producing countries.<\/li>\n<li>All projects are funded by\u00a0voluntary contributions from governments.<\/li>\n<li>Members: 75 countries (including India)<\/li>\n<li>Its members manage about 80 per cent of the world&#8217;s tropical forests and are responsible for 90 per cent of the global tropical timber trade.<\/li>\n<li>Headquarters: Yokohama, Japan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the United Nations?<\/h3>\n<p>The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945.
