


{"id":17360,"date":"2026-01-30T12:11:37","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T06:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17360"},"modified":"2026-01-31T16:03:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T10:33:45","slug":"kfd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kfd\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyasanur Forest Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kyasanur Forest Disease Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 29-year-old man in Karnataka has tragically lost his life recently after contracting Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), commonly known as monkey fever, bringing fresh attention to a disease that often goes unnoticed until it turns fatal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kyasanur Forest Disease\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>tick-borne viral haemorrhagic disease<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mostly found in <\/span><b>southern India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disease was <\/span><b>first reported<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>Kyasanur Forest <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Karnataka <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in India in <\/span><b>1957<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; hence, it is known as KFD.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> causal agent, KFD Virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (family Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus), is a member of the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) complex.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also <\/span><b>known as \u201cmonkey disease\/monkey fever\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because of its association with monkey deaths.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kyasanur Forest Disease <\/b><b>Transmission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Hard ticks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Hemaphysalis spinigera) <\/span><b>spread the KFD virus to people and to animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like monkeys and rodents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Transmission to humans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may occur after a <\/span><b>tick bite or contact with an infected animal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> most importantly a sick or recently dead monkey.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KFD <\/span><b>does not spread between people.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>epidemic period usually begins in October<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or November and <\/span><b>peaks from January to April, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">then declines by May and June.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kyasanur Forest Disease <\/b><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sudden onset of high-grade<\/span><b> fever, prostration, nausea, vomiting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>diarrhea, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and occasionally <\/span><b>neurological and haemorrhagic manifestations.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between<\/span><b> 5 and 10% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of people who are known to be affected by KFD <\/span><b>die<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kyasanur Forest Disease <\/b><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is <\/span><b>no cure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for KFD.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Supportive care <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is crucial, including fluid balance, providing oxygen, managing blood pressure, and treating additional infections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With quick medical care, many patients recover from KFD without complications.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kyasanur Forest Disease\u00a0 <\/b><b>Vaccine<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>vaccine for KFD is available <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and recommended in the parts of India where KFD is found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/health\/karnataka-man-dies-of-kyasanur-forest-disease-monkey-fever-doctor-details-symptoms-and-high-risk-season\/articleshow\/127779580.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TOI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) is a tick-borne viral haemorrhagic disease mostly found in southern India.
