{"id":17368,"date":"2025-10-13T10:24:35","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T04:54:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17368"},"modified":"2025-10-13T15:11:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T09:41:27","slug":"str","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/str\/","title":{"rendered":"Sundarbans National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sundarbans National Park Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) revealed that Sundarbans National Park has experienced a deterioration in its conservation outlook status from \u2018Good with Some Concerns\u2019 to \u2018Significant Concerns\u2019 in the last five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sundarbans National Park<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is located in the southeastern region of <\/span><b>West Bengal, near Kolkata<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and forms part of the Gangetic Delta.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is part of the <\/span><b>larger Sundarbans mangrove forest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the largest in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established in 1973 under <\/span><b>India&#8217;s Project Tiger initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to protect the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was designated as a <\/span><b>World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for its natural ecosystem and tiger habitat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was declared as a <\/span><b>Biosphere Reserve in 1989<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2001, it was included in the <\/span><b>UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for its role in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, the Sundarbans Wetland was <\/span><b>recognized as a Ramsar Site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, adding its importance for migratory birds and environmental sustainability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rivers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Sundarbans delta is formed by the coming together of three rivers, <\/span><b>Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Some of the common species of plants which are found include Sundari tree, Golpati, Champa, Dhundul, Genwa and Hatal.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Royal Bengal Tiger, <\/span><b>fishing cats,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> macaques, leopard cats, Indian grey mongoose, wild boar, <\/span><b>flying fox, pangolin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Indian grey mongoose.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/wildlife-biodiversity\/climate-change-diseases-threaten-sundarbans-national-park-latest-iucn-world-heritage-outlook-reveals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DTE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sundarbans National Park is located in the southeastern region of West Bengal, near Kolkata, and forms part of the Gangetic Delta.
