


{"id":17457,"date":"2023-11-27T11:40:42","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T06:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17457"},"modified":"2025-04-05T04:28:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T22:58:02","slug":"guru-nanak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/guru-nanak\/","title":{"rendered":"Key Facts about Guru Nanak"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is Guru Nanak Jayanti?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is celebrated on the 15th lunar day of the Hindu month of Kartik.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the most important days of Sikhism and marks the\u00a0birth anniversary of the first of the ten Sikh gurus and the founder of Sikhism,\u00a0Guru Nanak Dev Ji.<\/li>\n<li>The day\u00a0honours the teachings and wisdom of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and also promotes unity, equality, and selfless service, embodying the core principles of Sikh philosophy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About Guru Nanak<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Guru Nanak (1469\u20131539), also referred to as\u00a0Baba Nanak, was the\u00a0founder of Sikhism and the\u00a0first of the ten Sikh Gurus.<\/li>\n<li>He was\u00a0born on April 15, 1469,\u00a0in Rai Bhoi di\u00a0Talvandi,\u00a0now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan.<\/li>\n<li>Guru Nanak Dev spread the\u00a0message of\u00a0\u2018Ek Omkar\u2019 which means that God is one and is present everywhere.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He\u00a0propagated the idea that any person could connect with God by worshipping him with a clean conscience.<\/li>\n<li>Guru Nanak\u00a0laid the foundation for the\u00a0three pillars of Sikhism:\u00a0Naam Japna (meditating on God&#8217;s name),\u00a0Kirat Karni (honest and\u00a0truthful living), and\u00a0Vand Chakna (sharing with others, especially those in need).<\/li>\n<li>He was a\u00a0poet, a mystic, a philosopher, and a singer who\u00a0denounced ritualism\u00a0as well as discrimination\u00a0against women and those of lower socioeconomic status.<\/li>\n<li>Guru Nanak\u00a0rejected the caste system and\u00a0promoted the idea of\u00a0equality among all people, regardless of their background, caste, or gender.<\/li>\n<li>He\u00a0introduced the concept of &#8220;Sangat&#8221;(community), where all could come together to worship.<\/li>\n<li>All his teachings are composed together to\u00a0form the sacred book called\u00a0Guru Granth Sahib, the central\u00a0holy religious scripture of Sikhism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Guru Granth Sahib?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the most respected and sacred book of the Sikhs. It contains 5894 hymns, called Shabads, composed in 18 ragas (musical patterns). Out of these 5894 hymns, 976 are by Guru Nanak; 61 by Guru Angad; 907 by Guru AmarDas; 679 by Guru RamDas; 2216 by Guru Arjan; 118 by Guru Tegh Bahadur; and 937 by the 15 bhagats and bards.
