


{"id":17545,"date":"2023-11-29T03:53:02","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T22:23:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17545"},"modified":"2025-04-05T05:01:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T23:31:21","slug":"nolamba-dynasty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nolamba-dynasty\/","title":{"rendered":"Nolamba Dynasty"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Nolamba Dynasty<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They were one of the significant political\u00a0powers in South India.<\/li>\n<li>The Nolambas\u00a0ruled from the\u00a08th to the 12th centuries C.E. over an area traditionally called Nolambavadi, which extended\u00a0over\u00a0south-east Karnataka and\u00a0parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Their ruled first as feudatories to Pallavas, Chalukyas of Badami, Gangas, and\u00a0Rasjtrakutas, and\u00a0later to Chalukyas of Kalyani.<\/li>\n<li>Nolambas commonly\u00a0referred themselves as Nolamba Pallava in several inscriptions.<\/li>\n<li>Their\u00a0earlier capital was Chitradurga, which they later shifted to Hemavati in modern Andhra Pradesh. Hemavathi was the capital between the 8th and 10th centuries AD.<\/li>\n<li>Origin:\n<ul>\n<li>Mangala Nomabathi Raja (735\u2013785 A.D) was considered the\u00a0founder of Nolamba dynasty.<\/li>\n<li>Inscriptional evidence suggests that they\u00a0came into existence as governors when the\u00a0Pallavas and Chalukyas were supreme powers.<\/li>\n<li>With\u00a0the\u00a0seizure of Badami\u00a0by the Pallava ruler\u00a0Mamalla Narasimhavarman I, the\u00a0Chalukyas ceded the\u00a0territories that were\u00a0ruled by the Banas and Vaidumbas\u00a0to the\u00a0Pallavas.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Banas and Vaidumbas thus\u00a0became feudatories\u00a0of the Pallavas.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Nolambas, who were perhaps related to the Pallava family,\u00a0governed the region adjacent to these land of Pallava feudatories, namely the Banas and Vaidumbas.<\/li>\n<li>Sometime later, during the rule of Vikramaditya I, the\u00a0Chalukyas regained the lost territories.\u00a0The\u00a0Banas and Vaidumbas thus had to change their political relationship back to the Chalukyas.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Pallava chiefs, who were\u00a0adjacent to the Banas and Vaidumbas, were\u00a0defeated by the Chalukyas, who soon came under their protection.\u00a0These Pallava chiefs\u00a0soon\u00a0came into existence under the name of \u201cNolambas\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Decline: Nolambas were\u00a0overrun by the Ganga king Marasimha, who boasts of having destroyed the Nolamba family\u00a0and had the title Nolambakulantaka.<\/li>\n<li>Three grand temple complexes that are\u00a0attributed to this dynasty&#8217;s glory are the\u00a0Kalleshwara Temple\u00a0in Aralaguppe, the\u00a0Bhoganandishwara Temple in Nandi, and the\u00a0Ramalingeshwara Temple in Avani.<\/li>\n<li>The Nolambas\u00a0were Shaivites, and the temples they built were dedicated to Lord Shiva.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) Who were Pallavas?<\/h3>\n<p>Today\u2019s southern India was once ruled by the Pallava dynasty between the 2nd and 9th centuries CE, who are known for their great architecture. The Pallava dynasty was one of the most significant dynasties of ancient India, and a major force in southern India. Kanchi or modern-day Kanchipuram was the capital city of the Pallavas. Telgu, Tamil and Sanskrit were their main languages. Different architectural patterns, especially the stone-cut religious sites in Mahabalipuram, are associated with them.
