{"id":17573,"date":"2023-11-30T09:01:28","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T03:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17573"},"modified":"2025-04-05T05:12:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T23:42:59","slug":"opv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/opv\/","title":{"rendered":"Sajag Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Sajag OPV<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>ICGS Sajag is\u00a0part of the Indian Coast Guard fleet of OPVs,\u00a0based\u00a0on the West Coast of India\u00a0in Porbandar, Gujarat.<\/li>\n<li>It has been designed and\u00a0built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).<\/li>\n<li>It is the\u00a0third in the series of 105-meter\u00a0OPVs being built by GSL.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It operates under the operational command of the Commander Coast Guard Region (North West).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sajag has undertaken various Coast Guard operations, including\u00a0coastal security,\u00a0IMBL \/ EEZ surveillance,\u00a0anti-transnational crimes,\u00a0and maritime SAR and\u00a0pollution response operations in the past.<\/li>\n<li>Features:\n<ul>\n<li>The ship is equipped with modern weapon systems, sensors, and state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems.<\/li>\n<li>It is propelled by\u00a0two 9100 KW diesel engines and can attain a\u00a0maximum speed of 26 knots.<\/li>\n<li>It has an\u00a0endurance of 6000 nm at an economical speed.<\/li>\n<li>It is fitted with a\u00a040\/60 Bofors gun and two 12.7 mm guns.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to\u00a0carry one twin-engine helicopter and four high-speed boats, including two inflatable boats for boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime patrol.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is also\u00a0capable of carrying pollution response equipment to contain oil spills at sea.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is also equipped with an\u00a0Integrated Bridge System (IBS),\u00a0Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), Power Management System (PMS) and High Power External firefighting (EFF) system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an armed force that protects India&#8217;s maritime interests and enforces maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.it was formally established in 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 as an independent Armed force of India. It operates under the Ministry of Defence. The organization is headed by the Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG).
