{"id":17621,"date":"2023-12-01T08:09:54","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T02:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17621"},"modified":"2025-04-05T05:32:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T00:02:17","slug":"world-aids-day-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/world-aids-day-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"World AIDS Day 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About World AIDS Day<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is observed every year on\u00a0December 1 to spread awareness about HIV\/AIDS.<\/li>\n<li>The day is an opportunity to end stigmas associated with this disease, and this day also honours people who lost their precious lives and engage in lives that support HIV\/AIDS research and advanced treatment.<\/li>\n<li>It was first observed in 1988, when the\u00a0World Health Organisation (WHO) recognised the day.<\/li>\n<li>The theme of\u00a0World\u00a0AIDS Day 2023 is \u201cLet Communities Lead.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is HIV\/AIDS?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a\u00a0chronic, potentially life-threatening\u00a0condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).<\/li>\n<li>HIV attacks the body\u2019s immune system, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases.<\/li>\n<li>If HIV is not treated, it can\u00a0lead to AIDS.<\/li>\n<li>Transmission:\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0sexually transmitted infection (STI).<\/li>\n<li>It can also be\u00a0spread by contact with infected blood, and from illicit injection drug use, or sharing needles.<\/li>\n<li>It can also be\u00a0spread from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or\u00a0breastfeeding.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Treatment:\n<ul>\n<li>There is\u00a0currently no effective\u00a0cure.\u00a0Once people get HIV, they have it for life.<\/li>\n<li>But\u00a0with proper medical care, HIV\u00a0can be controlled.
