Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0was launched by the Indian government\u00a0in April 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to provide financial assistance to\u00a0economically\u00a0weaker sections\u00a0affected\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme encompasses the distribution of\u00a05 kg of free food grains each month,\u00a0along with cash transfers to women and elderly individuals.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0introduced as part of the broader Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, aiming to offer relief to those adversely affected by the pandemic, especially the poor and marginalised.<\/li>\n<li>As per the scheme, the government offers 5\u00a0kg of free food grains each month in addition to the subsidised ration\u00a0given\u00a0to families covered by the Public Distribution System\u00a0under the National Food Security Act.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility Criteria: The benefits of PMGKAY are accessible to families meeting specific eligibility criteria.\n<ul>\n<li>Families belonging to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)\u00a0and\u00a0Priority Households (PHH) categories will be eligible for the scheme.\u00a0PHH is to be identified by State Governments\/Union Territory Administrations\u00a0as per criteria evolved by them.\u00a0AAY families\u00a0are to be\u00a0identified by States\/UTs\u00a0as per the criteria\u00a0prescribed\u00a0by the\u00a0Central Government:<\/li>\n<li>Households headed by widows, or terminally ill persons,\u00a0or disabled persons,\u00a0or persons aged 60 years\u00a0or more\u00a0with no assured means of subsistence or societal support.<\/li>\n<li>Widows, or terminally ill persons, or disabled persons, or persons aged 60 years or more\u00a0or single women or single men with no family or societal support or assured means of subsistence.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally,\u00a0all primitive tribal households, landless agricultural labourers, marginal farmers, rural artisans\/craftsmen such as potters, tanners, slum dwellers, and\u00a0persons earning their livelihood on a daily basis in the informal sector like porters, coolies, rickshaw pullers, hand cart pullers, and other similar categories in both rural and urban areas are\u00a0also eligible for the scheme.<\/li>\n<li>All the citizens are eligible\u00a0who belong to Below Poverty Line families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the National Food Security Act (NFSA)?<\/h3>\n<p>The NFSA provides a legal right to persons belonging to \u201celigible households\u201d to receive food grains at subsidized price\u2013 rice at Rs 3\/kg, wheat at Rs 2\/kg and coarse grain at Rs 1\/kg \u2014 under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).The Act legally entitled up to 75% of the rural population and
