{"id":17637,"date":"2023-12-01T08:29:15","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T02:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17637"},"modified":"2025-04-05T05:38:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T00:08:34","slug":"press-mud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/press-mud\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Press mud?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Press mud<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is often known as\u00a0filter cake or press cake,<\/li>\n<li>It is the\u00a0agricultural waste obtained when cane juice is repeatedly filtered before being sent for extraction of sugar.<\/li>\n<li>The filters are cleaned periodically, and the waste is deposited into the yard of the mill.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly 3 to 4 percent of press mud is obtained when per tonne of cane is crushed.<\/li>\n<li>At present, mills recycle this agriculture waste as manure by composting the same and supply it to the farmers in the area.<\/li>\n<li>Benefits\n<ul>\n<li>It can be utilisied as a\u00a0feedstock for biogas production through anaerobic digestion and subsequent purification\u00a0to create compressed biogas (CBG).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is very useful for\u00a0agricultural crops and horticulture because of its richness in various micronutrients.<\/li>\n<li>It has been acknowledged as a valuable resource for green energy production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Issue with press mud: Storing pressmud proves challenging as it\u00a0undergoes gradual decomposition, resulting in the\u00a0breakdown of organic compounds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is compressed biogas (CBG)?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is\u00a0produced naturally through a process of anaerobic decomposition from waste \/ bio-mass sources like agriculture residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, sewage treatment plant waste, etc.<\/li>\n<li>After purification, it is compressed and called CBG, which has pure methane content of over 95%.<\/li>\n<li>It is exactly similar to the commercially available natural gas in its composition and energy potential.
