


{"id":17657,"date":"2023-12-02T03:51:42","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T22:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17657"},"modified":"2025-04-05T05:46:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T00:16:05","slug":"project-kuiper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/project-kuiper\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Project Kuiper?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Project Kuiper<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is\u00a0Amazon\u2019s project to build a\u00a0network of 3,236 satellites\u00a0in low Earth orbit, to provide high-speed internet access anywhere in the world.<\/li>\n<li>Its mission is\u00a0to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved\u00a0communities around the world.<\/li>\n<li>Project Kuiper has\u00a0three main parts:\n<ul>\n<li>Ground infrastructure:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It includes\u00a0gateway antennas that securely\u00a0send and receive customer\u00a0data to and from satellites, along with\u00a0telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&amp;C) antennas\u00a0that keep the satellites properly operating.<\/li>\n<li>Global networking\u00a0connects those gateway\u00a0antennas to the internet, public cloud, or private networks.\n<ul>\n<li>Satellites: They operate\u00a0in low Earth orbit (LEO) and\u00a0relay data traffic to and from gateway antennas and customers.<\/li>\n<li>Customer terminals:<\/li>\n<li>These are the technology that Project Kuiper customers\u00a0use to receive broadband service.<\/li>\n<li>The terminals\u00a0combine antennas and processors into a single, compact system to\u00a0deliver connectivity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO)?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>LEO is an orbit around the Earth with an\u00a0altitude that lies towards the\u00a0lower end of the range of possible orbits.<\/li>\n<li>This is\u00a0around 1,200 miles (2,000 km) or less.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0majority of satellites are to be\u00a0found in LEO.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike satellites in geostationary orbit (GEO) that must always orbit along Earth\u2019s equator,\u00a0LEO satellites do not\u00a0always have to follow a particular path around Earth in the same way;\u00a0their plane can be tilted.<\/li>\n<li>This\u00a0means there are more available routes for satellites in LEO, which is one of the reasons why LEO is a very commonly used orbit.<\/li>\n<li>It is the orbit most\u00a0commonly used for satellite imaging, as being near the surface allows it to take images of higher resolution.<\/li>\n<li>It is also the\u00a0orbit\u00a0used for the International Space Station (ISS), as it is easier for astronauts to travel to and from it at a shorter distance.<\/li>\n<li>However,\u00a0individual LEO satellites are less useful for tasks such as\u00a0telecommunication,\u00a0because they move so fast across the sky and therefore\u00a0require a lot of effort to track from ground stations.<\/li>\n<li>Instead,\u00a0communications satellites in LEO often work as\u00a0part\u00a0of\u00a0a large combination, or\u00a0constellation, of multiple satellites to provide constant coverage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a geostationary orbit (GEO)?<\/h3>\n<p>A geostationary satellite is an Earth-orbiting satellite placed at an altitude of approximately 22,300 miles or 35,800 kilometers directly above the equator. These satellites revolve in the same direction the Earth rotates &#8212; west to east.hese satellites complete one orbit in about 24 hours, which is the same amount of time it takes for the Earth to rotate once on its axis.
