{"id":17769,"date":"2024-10-18T06:43:21","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T01:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17769"},"modified":"2025-04-05T06:31:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T01:01:42","slug":"ins-samarthak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-samarthak\/","title":{"rendered":"INS Samarthak"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About INS Samarthak:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>first of two multi-purpose vessels (MPVs)<\/strong> for the Indian Navy.<\/li>\n<li>The vessel was designed and constructed in-house by <strong>Larsen and Toubro (L&amp;T) Shipyard at Kattupalli,<\/strong> aligning to the Centre&#8217;s &#8216;Make in India&#8217; initiative and &#8216;Atmanirbhar Vision&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>It is a highly specialised, <strong>multi-role platform<\/strong> designed to su<strong>pport the development and testing of next-generation weapons and sensors for<\/strong> the <strong>Indian Navy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It will also perform a variety of <strong>other functions<\/strong>, including <strong>maritime surveillance<\/strong>, <strong>patrolling<\/strong>, launching and recovering surface and aerial targets, providing <strong>humanitarian assistance,<\/strong> and <strong>combating sea pollution<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It measures 107 meters in length, 18.6 meters in width, and has a displacement of over 3,750 tonnes.<\/li>\n<li>The vessel can achieve a maximum speed of 15 knots.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Points to remember:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>L&amp;T\u2019s <strong>Kattupalli Shipyard<\/strong> is located in Ennore, about 45 km north of Chennai, <strong>Tamil Nadu.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is one of the <strong>most advanced shipbuilding and ship repair facilities in India<\/strong> and is equipped with shiplift, dry berths, and wet berths to concurrently undertake new build construction and repairs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In addition to building two MPVs, Kattupalli Shipyard is <strong>currently constructing threeCadet Training Ships a<\/strong>nd <strong>six other defence vessels<\/strong> for the Indian Navy under a <strong>Public-Private-Partnership model.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The yard is also involved in the<strong> repair of<\/strong> the <strong>US Naval Ship Charles Drew<\/strong> under a <strong>Master Ship Repair Agreement with the US Navy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Larsen and Toubro (L&amp;T)?<\/h3>\n<p>Larsen &amp; Toubro is an Indian multinational that operates in technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and financial services.
