{"id":17849,"date":"2023-12-07T03:21:32","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T21:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17849"},"modified":"2025-04-05T07:02:53","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T01:32:53","slug":"solar-orbiter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/solar-orbiter\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Solar Orbiter?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Solar Orbiter<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0Sun-observing satellite with 10 science instruments, all designed to provide unprecedented insight into how the sun works.<\/li>\n<li>It is conceived to perform a\u00a0close-up study of our Sun and inner heliosphere-the uncharted innermost regions of our Solar System.<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0joint mission of the European Space Agency (ESA)\u00a0and NASA.<\/li>\n<li>It is the\u00a0most complex scientific\u00a0laboratory ever to have been\u00a0sent to the Sun.<\/li>\n<li>It will\u00a0take images of the Sun from closer than any spacecraft before and, for the first time, look at its uncharted\u00a0polar regions.<\/li>\n<li>The mission, launched on February 10, 2020, released its first images in June of that year.<\/li>\n<li>After multiple gravitational assist manoeuvres at Earth and Venus, it started its full science operations in December 2021.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0follows an elliptical orbit around the sun,\u00a0with the closest point, the perihelion, at about 25 million miles (40 million kilometers) from the sun, which is\u00a0closer than the orbit of Mercury.<\/li>\n<li>Instruments: It carries\u00a0six remote-sensing instruments\u00a0to observe the Sun and the solar corona and four in-situ instruments to measure the solar wind, energetic particles, and electromagnetic fields.<\/li>\n<li>The mission is\u00a0scheduled to last until at least 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Sun&#8217;s Corona?<\/h3>\n<p>The Sun&#8217;s corona is the outermost layer of its atmosphere, extending millions of kilometers into space.
