


{"id":17892,"date":"2026-01-12T12:11:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T06:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17892"},"modified":"2026-01-12T14:31:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:01:27","slug":"hatti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/hatti\/","title":{"rendered":"Hatti Tribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Hatti Tribe Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Boda Tyohar&#8221;, the biggest annual festival of the Hati tribe in Himachal Pradesh&#8217;s Sirmour and celebrated by over three lakh community members, recently commenced with traditional fervour. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Hatti Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hattis are a <\/span><b>close-knit community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who <\/span><b>take their name from their age-old <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">professional <\/span><b>practice of selling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> their <\/span><b>homegrown crops at small markets called \u2018Haat\u2019 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in nearby cities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Hatti men traditionally don distinctive white headgear<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on ceremonial occasions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tribal people reside in the<\/span><b> Himachal-Uttarakhand border<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>basin of the Giri and Tons rivers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both t<\/span><b>ributaries of the Yamuna.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are t<\/span><b>wo main Hatti clans: one in the Trans-Giri area of the Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>other in Jaunsar Bawar of Uttarakhand.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two Hatti clans have <\/span><b>similar traditions,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>intermarriages are common.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Jodidara <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a traditional<\/span><b> form of polyandrous marriage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">practised among the Hatti<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tribe in Himachal Pradesh, where a <\/span><b>woman marries two or more brothers.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Polyandry <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is <\/span><b>legally recognised in Himachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under revenue laws.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris is governed by a <\/span><b>traditional council<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called \u2018<\/span><b>khumbli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 which decides community matters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Economy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The Hatti population relies on <\/span><b>agriculture <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for livelihood and bare subsistence since their climate is ideal for growing \u201cCash Crops.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Population<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: According to the 2011 census, members of the community numbered <\/span><b>2.5 lakh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but at present the population of the Hattis is estimated at around 3 lakhs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 2023, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Indian<\/span><b> government granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Hatti community in Himachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jaunsar-Bawar region of Uttarakhand was granted tribal status in 1967.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Boda Tyohar, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also called <\/span><b>Magho ko Tyohar, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the <\/span><b>biggest annual festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Hatti tribe.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/india-news\/month-long-hati-s-tribal-festival-boda-tyohar-commenced-with-fervour-in-himachal-101768034028328.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hatti Tribe reside in the Himachal-Uttarakhand border in the basin of the Giri and Tons rivers, both tributaries of the Yamuna.
