{"id":17904,"date":"2025-06-09T15:10:34","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T09:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17904"},"modified":"2025-06-09T17:46:06","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T12:16:06","slug":"nafis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nafis\/","title":{"rendered":"National Automated Fingerprint Identification System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>National Automated Fingerprint Identification System Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>Recently, the Centre has revised the procedure for the Foreigners Identification Portal (FIP) of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) and asked states\/UTs to use fingerprint scanners available in districts under districts police module (DPM) of Immigration Visa Foreigner Registration Tracking system (IVFRT).<\/p>\n<h2>About National Automated Fingerprint Identification System<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a pan-India searchable database of crime and criminal-related fingerprints.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong>\u00a0To collect\u00a0<strong>fingerprint data<\/strong>\u00a0of all the\u00a0<strong>criminals from all the states<\/strong>\u00a0and the Union Territories.<\/li>\n<li>It will enable law enforcement agencies to\u00a0<strong>upload, trace and retrieve information<\/strong>\u00a0from the database 24&#215;7 in real-time.<\/li>\n<li>It is managed by the\u00a0<strong>National Crime Records Bureau<\/strong>\u00a0(NCRB) at the Central fingerprint bureau, based in New Delhi.<\/li>\n<li>With NAFIS, it is possible to locate a person of interest in a matter of minutes and connect that individual\u2019s name to any active warrants, warnings, or information about related criminal conduct stored in other police information reference systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Working of NAFIS<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It assigns a\u00a0<strong>unique 10-digit National Fingerprint Number<\/strong>\u00a0for each criminal, based on biometrics.<\/li>\n<li>The unique ID will be\u00a0<strong>used for a lifetime of an offender<\/strong>.
