{"id":17948,"date":"2023-12-09T05:48:58","date_gmt":"2023-12-09T00:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17948"},"modified":"2025-04-05T07:42:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T02:12:21","slug":"green-voyage2050-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-voyage2050-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Voyage2050 Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Green Voyage2050 Project<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The overall goal of the Project is to\u00a0support effective implementation of the Initial IMO GHG Strategy.<\/li>\n<li>It provides support to developing countries in their\u00a0efforts to reduce GreenHouse Gas emissions from ships.<\/li>\n<li>The Initial IMO Strategy sets out a clear vision and levels of ambition, one of which is to\u00a0reduce the total annual GHG emissions by at\u00a0least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008.<\/li>\n<li>It is envisaged that the project will strengthen MARPOL Annex VI compliance, facilitate sharing of operational best practices, catalyze the uptake of energy efficient technologies and explore opportunities for low- and zero-carbon fuels.<\/li>\n<li>Components of the project\n<ul>\n<li>Component 1 \u2013 Developing global tools to support implementation of the Initial IMO GHG Strategy<\/li>\n<li>Component 2 \u2013 Capacity building, policy and NAP development<\/li>\n<li>Component 3 \u2013 Strategic partnership development<\/li>\n<li>Component 4 \u2013 Technology cooperation, innovation and pilot demonstrations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Partnering Countries\n<ul>\n<li>The countries participating in the GreenVoyage2050 Project are: Azerbaijan, Belize, China, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Georgia,\u00a0India, Kenya, Malaysia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka.<\/li>\n<li>These countries are participating as either a\u00a0New Pilot Country (NPC) or a\u00a0Pioneer Pilot Country (PPC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The GreenVoyage2050 Project, currently in its first phase,\u00a0is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment for an initial period up to December 2023 (NOK 64.5 million).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Greenhouse gas?<\/h3>\n<p>Greenhouse gases (also known as GHGs) are gases in the earth&#8217;s atmosphere that trap heat. During the day, the sun shines through the atmosphere, warming the earth&#8217;s surface. At night the earth&#8217;s surface cools, releasing heat back into the air.
