


{"id":17976,"date":"2024-07-12T03:03:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T21:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17976"},"modified":"2025-10-10T12:14:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T06:44:59","slug":"tdf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tdf\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Technology Development Fund (TDF) Scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Technology Development Fund (TDF) Scheme:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been established to promote <strong>self-reliance in Defence Technology<\/strong> as a part of the &#8216;Make in India&#8217; initiative.<\/li>\n<li>It is a programme of the <strong>Ministry of Defence.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This programme is <strong>executed by the DRDO<\/strong> to meet the requirements of the Tri-Services, Defence Production, and DRDO.<\/li>\n<li>The Scheme <strong>encourages the participation of public\/private industries<\/strong>, <strong>especially MSMEs and startups<\/strong>, so as to create an ecosystem for enhancing cutting-edge technology capability in the defence sector.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to providing the <strong>grants-in-aid<\/strong> for the <strong>development of indigenous technology<\/strong>, the scheme also provides the industry with various benefits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding Support<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The project cost of <strong>up to INR 50 crore<\/strong> will be considered for funding.<\/li>\n<li>The funding may be <strong>up to 90% of <\/strong>the <strong>total project cost.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Industry<strong> may work<\/strong> in <strong>collaboration with academia<\/strong> or research institutions. The work <strong>involvement of academia cannot exceed 40%<\/strong> of the total <strong>project cost<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>funding<\/strong> will be <strong>linked to mutually agreed milestones<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Funds will be <strong>released either in advance<\/strong> against a bank guarantee of the same amount as collateral, <strong>or reimbursement based on the completion of milestones<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Subsequent installments will be released on successful completion of milestones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project Duration:<\/strong> The maximum development period will be <strong>four (4) years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A public limited company, a private limited company<\/strong>, a <strong>partnership firm<\/strong>, a limited liability partnership, a <strong>one-person company<\/strong>, or a sole proprietorship registered as per applicable Indian laws registered in India <strong>especially MSMEs<\/strong> and <strong>Startups.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The industry must be <strong>owned and controlled by a resident Indian citizen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>An entity with<strong> excess of 49 percentforeign investment<\/strong> will <strong>not be eligible.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Startups must be recognized by the<\/strong> Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (<strong>DPIIT<\/strong>) as per Government of India (GOI) guidelines.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Startups incorporated for less than three years<\/strong> from date of submission of application will be considered as<strong> nascent startups<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A nascent Startup should be incubated at one of the Central\/State government assisted incubators.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Startups should not<\/strong> have <strong>received any grants<\/strong>\/grants-in-aid by any government scheme <strong>for a similar technology.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>startup<\/strong> must be <strong>owned and controlled by a Resident Indian citizen<\/strong> with a <strong>shareholding of at least 51%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p>DRDO is the R&amp;D wing of Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems, while equipping our armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems and equipment in accordance with requirements laid down by the three Services.
