{"id":17984,"date":"2024-08-20T04:44:07","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T23:14:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=17984"},"modified":"2025-04-05T07:56:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T02:26:24","slug":"banni-grassland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/banni-grassland\/","title":{"rendered":"Banni Grassland"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Banni Grasslands<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located along the northern border of Kachchh district in the state of Gujarat.<\/li>\n<li>The Banni is also home to <strong>22 ethnic groups<\/strong>, the majority of whom are pastoralists.<\/li>\n<li>It is home to great biological diversity, having 37 grass species, 275 bird species, and domesticated animals like Buffalo, Sheep, Goat, Horses and Camel, as well as wildlife.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary <\/strong>and Chhari Dhand Conservation Reserve are part of the Banni Grasslands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora:<\/strong> The vegetation here mainly comprises Prosopis Juliflora, Cressa critica, Cyperus spp, Sporobolus, Dichanthium, and Aristida.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna:<\/strong>It is home to mammals such as the Nilgai, Chinkara, Blackbuck, Wild boar, Golden Jackal, Indian Hare, Indian Wolf, Caracal, Asiatic Wildcat and Desert Fox etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key facts about Grasslands<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These are one of the largest ecosystems in the world.<\/li>\n<li>They are distributed mainly in <strong>semiarid and arid areas<\/strong>, and include savannahs, grassy shrublands, and open grasslands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecological benefits: <\/strong>They harbour a large number of unique and iconic species and offer a variety of material and intangible advantages to people, including several ecosystem services such as carbon storage, climate mitigation, and pollination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Threats:<\/strong> They face the problem of <strong>degradation due to deforestation<\/strong>, overgrazing, agriculture, urbanisation, and other natural and human-made reasons.
