{"id":18013,"date":"2023-12-11T05:41:44","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T00:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18013"},"modified":"2025-04-05T08:07:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T02:37:05","slug":"budgetts-frog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/budgetts-frog\/","title":{"rendered":"Budgett\u2019s frog"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Budgett\u2019s frog<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Behaviour\n<ul>\n<li>Budgett\u2019s frogs are\u00a0highly intelligent and very aggressive.<\/li>\n<li>When frightened, they inflate themselves, stand up on their short legs and if this doesn\u2019t deter the potential predator, they lunge at them with an open huge mouth followed up by a shrill shriek.<\/li>\n<li>During the\u00a0dry season, Budgett\u2019s frogs\u00a0remain in burrows they dig in the bottoms of pools of water.<\/li>\n<li>While in the burrow, they\u00a0will shed several layers of skin from which to form a\u00a0waterproof cocoon that will keep the frog moist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>They use their exceptional night vision and their sensitivity to movement when hunting food.<\/li>\n<li>Habitat\/range: They are found near or in permanent or seasonal bodies of water in\u00a0Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia.<\/li>\n<li>Conservation Status\n<ul>\n<li>IUCN Red List: Least Concern<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key findings of the research<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0peptides\u00a0(short proteins) produced from the skin of amphibians have long been studied because of their\u00a0ability to counter unfavourable conditions in the environment, including harmful pathogens.<\/li>\n<li>The frog-secreted peptide inhibited two key enzymes called\u00a0subtilisin carlsberg and\u00a0proteinase K., produced by pathogens.<\/li>\n<li>These enzymes play a pivotal role in promoting infections by degrading specific protective proteins of the infected person.<\/li>\n<li>The peptide was shown to act through a\u00a0slow-tight binding pathway, and was found to be as effective as SSI, a well-known\u00a0subtilisin inhibitor.<\/li>\n<li>The researchers show the formation of a Michaelis complex \u2013 a tight, noncovalent complex with the intact inhibitor \u2013 during the process.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are peptides?<\/h3>\n<p>A peptide is a short string of 2 to 50 amino acids, formed by a condensation reaction, joining together through a covalent bond.
