The <strong>bacteria produce spores<\/strong> that <strong>can live in the ground for years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Livestock and wild animals can become <strong>infected when they breathe in, eat,<\/strong> or drink <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/quest-upsc-notes\/bacteria\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>bacteria<\/strong><\/a><strong> spores<\/strong> in contaminated soil, plants, or water.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>People<\/strong> usually <strong>get sick<\/strong> with anthrax if they <strong>come in contact with infected animals <\/strong>or contaminated animal products.<\/li>\n<li><strong>People can breathe in anthrax spores<\/strong>, eat food or drink water contaminated with spores, or get spores in a cut or scrape in the skin.<\/li>\n<li>Anthrax <strong>isn\u2019t contagious <\/strong>like chickenpox or the flu. You can\u2019t catch anthrax from being around someone who\u2019s infected.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The disease manifests in <strong>three forms depending on the route<\/strong> of infection: <strong>cutaneous, gastrointestinal, and inhalational.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Infection in humans<\/strong> most often <strong>involves the skin, gastrointestinal tract, or lungs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms:<\/strong> Depending on the type, symptoms include:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chest pain<\/strong> and trouble breathing.<\/li>\n<li>Fatigue.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fever<\/strong> and profuse sweating.<\/li>\n<li>Headache or muscle aches.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Itchy blisters <\/strong>or bumps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skin ulcer (sore) with a black center<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and bloody diarrhea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swollen lymph nodes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Antibiotic treatment<\/strong> is effective if given at an early stage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vaccination<\/strong> against anthrax is <strong>only recommended for at-risk individuals<\/strong>, such as those working in anthrax-endemic areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is an Ulcer?<\/h3>\n<p>An ulcer is an open, painful sore.
