categorically rejected the references to Kashmir in the Joint Communique of the Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Organisation of Islamic Cooperation\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>second largest intergovernmental organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the United Nations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a <\/span><b>membership <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of<\/span><b> 57 states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spread over<\/span><b> four continents.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OIC <\/span><b>aims to preserve Islamic values<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, safeguard and <\/span><b>defend the national sovereignty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>independence of member states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and contribute to international peace and security.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The OIC considers itself as the <\/span><b>\u201ccollective voice of the Muslim world\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and endeavors to safeguard and protect the interests of its member states in economic, social, and political areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>History<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Organization of Islamic Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>established <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">upon a decision of the <\/span><b>historical summit,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which took place in <\/span><b>Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on 25 September <\/span><b>1969, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>following <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>criminal arson of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The organisation operates under the <\/span><b>Charter of the OIC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>originally adopted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>1972 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and substantially <\/span><b>revised in 2008 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the Dakar Summit.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>name \u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Organization of Islamic Conference\u201d was <\/span><b>changed to \u201cOrganization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in June <\/span><b>2011 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the 38th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Astana.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Headquarters: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>official languages <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>Arabic, English, and French.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The OIC is composed of the following <\/span><b>main bodies:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Islamic Summit Conference (ISC): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>supreme authority <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the OIC, which <\/span><b>meets every three years <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to lay down the Organization\u2019s policy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It <\/span><b>meets once a year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to examine the implementation of its decisions taken within the framework of the policy defined by the ISC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>General Secretariat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is the <\/span><b>executive organ<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the OIC entrusted with the implementation of the decisions of the two preceding bodies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, established in 2011.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specialised and affiliated institutions include the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The OIC <\/span><b>partners with international mechanisms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(including <\/span><b>every specialized UN agency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), governments, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to address issues of concern to its member states and Muslims worldwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Core agenda items <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have historically centred on the <\/span><b>Palestinian question<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the<\/span><b> status of Jerusalem, solidarity among Muslim state<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, <\/span><b>countering Islamophobia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and economic and scientific cooperation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India and OIC:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The 1969 Snub:<\/b> <b>India was invited to the inaugural OIC summit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Rabat, Morocco, in 1969, but was<\/span><b> disinvited at the last minute due to pressure from Pakistan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Guest of Honour (2019):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 2019, India<\/span><b> participated for the first time in an OIC CFM meeting.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has<\/span><b> strategically bypassed the OIC as a collective bloc,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> instead building massive economic and security ties directly with the Gulf and Arab nations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Kashmir Issue:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India <\/span><b>consistently rejects the OIC&#8217;s locus standi on its internal affairs, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stating that the organisation has no
