{"id":18210,"date":"2023-12-16T03:16:50","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T21:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18210"},"modified":"2025-04-05T09:24:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T03:54:25","slug":"mh-60-romeo-helicopter-upsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mh-60-romeo-helicopter-upsc\/","title":{"rendered":"MH-60 Romeo Helicopter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About MH-60 Romeo Helicopter<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the world\u2019s\u00a0most advanced maritime helicopter and the\u00a0U.S. Navy&#8217;s primary anti-submarine and surface warfare helicopter, specially designed for all aspects of land or maritime operations.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0manufactured by\u00a0US defence major\u00a0Lockheed Martin.<\/li>\n<li>It is an\u00a0all-weather helicopter designed with state-of-the-art avionics and sensors.<\/li>\n<li>The helicopter is equipped for a\u00a0range of missions, including\u00a0anti-submarine warfare (ASW),\u00a0anti-surface warfare (ASuW),\u00a0search-and-rescue (SAR), naval gunfire support (NGFS),\u00a0surveillance, communications relay,\u00a0logistics support and personnel transfer, and vertical replenishment (VERTREP).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The helicopter\u00a0operates from frigates, destroyers, cruisers,\u00a0amphibious ships, and\u00a0aircraft carriers and is suitable\u00a0for\u00a0intense littoral warfare operations for handling numerous contacts in confined spaces, and for open-water operations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Indian government ordered 24\u00a0MH-60 Romeo\u00a0helicopters for the Indian Navy in 2020 at a cost of more than 14000 crores. Deliveries commenced in 2022 and are planned to be completed in 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Features:\n<ul>\n<li>It carries advanced\u00a0airborne active sonar, multi-mode\u00a0search radar, and a nose-mounted forward-looking infrared (FLIR) turret.<\/li>\n<li>The cabin can accommodate\u00a0three or four flight crews and\u00a0five passengers.<\/li>\n<li>It is powered by two\u00a0turboshaft engines rated at 1,425kW.<\/li>\n<li>Maximum Speed: 267 km\/h<\/li>\n<li>Range: 454 km<\/li>\n<li>Weapons include\u00a0torpedoes, air-to-ground missiles and\u00a0rockets, and crew-served guns.<\/li>\n<li>It has an\u00a0integrated self-defense system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are torpedoes?<\/h3>\n<p>A torpedo is a type of missile or bomb fired underwater.
