


{"id":18243,"date":"2023-12-17T06:31:38","date_gmt":"2023-12-17T01:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18243"},"modified":"2025-04-05T09:41:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T04:11:04","slug":"bahmani-kingdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bahmani-kingdom\/","title":{"rendered":"Bahmani Kingdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Bahmani Kingdom<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Bahmani Kingdom\u00a0rose to power\u00a0after the Turkish Governor Ala-ud-din Hassan Bahman Shan\u00a0established an\u00a0independent empire by revolting against the Sultan of Delhi Sultanate,\u00a0Muhammad Bin Tughlaq in 1347.<\/li>\n<li>It was the\u00a0first independent Islamic kingdom in South India that rose to power.<\/li>\n<li>It was established in\u00a0present-day Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>They set up the\u00a0capital in Ahsanabad (Gulbarga) between 1347 and 1425\u00a0and later moved to Bidar.<\/li>\n<li>There were a\u00a0total of fourteen sultans ruling over this kingdom. Among them, Alauddin Bahman Shah, Muhammad Shah I and Firoz Shah were important.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Bahmani kingdom\u00a0reached its peak under the\u00a0guidance of Mahmud Gawan, who served with great distinction as\u00a0Prime Minister of three Bahamni Sultans for about twenty-three years\u00a0from 1458 to 1481 AD.<\/li>\n<li>Mahmud Gawan extended the empire\u00a0by\u00a0reconquering Goa, which was under the Vijayanagar Empire at the time.<\/li>\n<li>Administration:\n<ul>\n<li>The kingdom was\u00a0divided into four administrative regions or provinces\u00a0called \u2018taraf\u2019. These were\u00a0Daulatabad, Bidar, Berar, and Gulbarga.<\/li>\n<li>Each province had a tarafdar, or\u00a0subedar.<\/li>\n<li>Bahmani\u00a0rulers were\u00a0dependent on their amirs for military support.<\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0used gunpowder in wars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Art and Architecture:\n<ul>\n<li>The Bahmanis were known to have an\u00a0enthusiasm for architecture and art.<\/li>\n<li>In architecture, the Bahmani period followed the\u00a0Indo-Islamic style of architecture with a few changes.<\/li>\n<li>Buildings were\u00a0constructed using local materials. An\u00a0influence of Persian architecture could be seen in the buildings of this period.<\/li>\n<li>Examples of architecture could be found at Gulbarga (Shah bazaar mosque,\u00a0Hafta Gumbaz, Jama maszid), at Bijapur (Gol gumbaz, Ibrahim roza, Bara Kaman, etc.), and at Bidar (Rangeen mahal, Janata mahal).<\/li>\n<li>During this period,\u00a0Urdu, Arabic, and Persian literature were abundant.<\/li>\n<li>It was during this\u00a0period when a new dialect, \u2018Dakhini Urdu\u2019 prevailed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Decline:\n<ul>\n<li>Around 1518,\u00a0Krishnadeva Raya of the Vijayanagar Empire\u00a0defeated the last ruler of the Bahmani Empire.<\/li>\n<li>After this, the Bahmani Empire\u00a0broke down into five states, collectively\u00a0known as Deccan Sultanates.<\/li>\n<li>These five Deccan Sultanates\u00a0were: Adilshahi of Bijapur, Baridshahis of Bidar, Nizamshahi of Ahmadnagar, Qutubshahi of Golconda (Hyderabad), and\u00a0Imadshahi of Berar.<\/li>\n<li>These states\u00a0commenced declaring independence from the Bahmani kingdom.<\/li>\n<li>Angered by the disintegration,\u00a0Bidar, Ahmadnagar, Golconda, and Bijapur together attacked Vijayanagar.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0latter was defeated in 1565\u00a0in what is known as the\u00a0Battle of Talikota.<\/li>\n<li>After Vijayanagar was destroyed, Bahmani\u00a0did not remain in power for long.\u00a0Akbar, and then Aurangzeb annexed these kingdoms into the Mughal Empire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) Who was Krishnadevaraya?<\/h3>\n<p>The greatest emperor in the Vijayanagar empire\u2019s history was Krishnadevaraya(17 January 1471-17 October 1529). He presided over the Tuluva Dynasty as its third king.
